Tachometer needle jumping 900

Good day all,

On a trip yesterday I noticed my tachometer needle was jumping around at times. It would bounce from 2k to 3k rpms then quit and return to normal. The car ran fine during this, but it was a bit distracting. BTW - '94 945T

Does anyone know the cause?
