swapping instument cluster Yazaki with VDO 700 1989

My 89 740GL speedo and odometer have failed. I removed the instrument cluster thinking I could replace the gear that drives them as posted on Brickboard.

Unfortunately this gear is replacable for VDO speedos but I have a Yazaki.

Has anyone sucessfully swapped a Yazaki speedo with a VDO?
Wondering if it will work??? Can I swap the whole instrument cluster?
