1982 Volvo 245 wont start 200 1982

My 1982 Volvo 245 station wagon wont start as what happened was that when I was driving on the road, the car automatically shut down as I felt a loud click from the engine. I had to tow the car home and I tried to start but the battery is fine..It won't run at all. What could be a problem?
