HELP! My car starts, runs but when I switch the ignition key to run the engine stops 200 1982

My 1982 volvo 240 Gl starts, runs but when I switch the ignition switch from the "starting mode" to the "on mode" the engine shuts down.
I think maybe its a fuel problem, I think it only runs with the cold start injector temporarily and the injectors arnt working. I took off one of the injectors but I dont know how to check them to see if they are working. Are the injector supose to work when the engine turns on after the cold start injected some fueland then they work or do they work as soon as you turn the switch. My car has the continous fuel injectors "mecanical" and it doesnt have a balast resistor it is a 1982.
I hope somone can help me with my problem or tell me about there experience if they had this same problem.
