Hello all,
I'm hoping that someone has run across this problem. I gopt a real deal on this 88 760 GLE Wagon because it would not start. Of course, before I could crank it the Turbo needed a rebuild, manifold ports cleaned and new vacuum lines replaced. Air ducting replaced. Intercooler replaced with a clean one. The engine now looks like new. So I put in a new battery and spun it over. Nothing! I checked the fuel pumps, both running. I checked for fuel in the manifold. I changed the fuel pressure regulator, distributor (twice!), ignition module, amplifier, fuel injector ballast resistors, high pressure cutout switch. Checked for fire at the plugs, Yep! Changed the ECU. Changed the AMM. Removed and smelled the plugs. Gas is there. I swapped the relays for the fan and radio interference resistor. Nothing.
The car sounds like it is trying to fire but not quite. If I advance the spark all of the limit of the distributor, the engine almost stops turning so I know that we are doing something.
Before I trade this for a blind, lame dog with worms and no teeth, does anyone see anything that I could have overlooked? This thing is not quite like the schematics and looks like the next year model.
