checking LH Injectors 200 1988

In the IPD catalog they state that you can check LH fuel injectors by simply unplugging them one at a time to determine if there is a problem with one of them.

Is this done with the engine off, then started each time to check the running condition without that particular injector?

I am assuming unplugging a firing injector could damage the injector or the computer.

Thoughts?
