960 engine noise 900

Hi Everyone,

My '93 960 makes a high-pitched whining noise from the engine at higher rpms ( above say 3000 rpm). I'm not sure where to start checking to identify the cause of this sound. The timing belt is new and the car has 74 K miles on it. The car made the noise before the timing belt change as well.
