960 aw40 front seal leak 900 1996

Hey Y'all,

I have a 96 960 sedan and it sat for awhile (3-4 months)due to the tarnsmission error of W-S-E lights flashing. I now know that it is the PNP switch. No problem
However, while I driving it to the buddy's to replace the switch (about 20 miles away) the transmission started to bleed. It now needs a front transmission seal.

I have a reasonable set of mechanical skills and tools (I should I own 2 Volvos, 2 MGB's, and 89 Astro van) yeah I know I am gluton for punishment!

However, the real question is: Can I replace the front transmission and rear engine seal myself or do I have to cough up the $500+ USD to have this done by my Volvo shop?

BTW the AW40 Tranny isn't listed in the BB archives or anywhere else regarding info on R&R only on the AW70/71 etc. Are these intructions similiar or is the AW40 different in some way? Any additional info and pitfalls to look out for would be welcome as well.

So can anyone out there quide me in the right direction or is this a don't touch with a ten foot pole and let the shop do it?

Thanks

Codacas
(73 MGB'S, 89 Astro, 93 945, 96 960)
