1985 240 turbo engine dies while driving, HELP!!! 200 1985

I failed a smog check recently and needed to fix a few things. i went to a junkyard and got the tack hose that was torn. Its the 3 inch aluminum hose that connects the airbox to the exhaust manifold cover.

i took off the the hoses that were in the way and replaced the tack hose, then put everything back together.

when doing the hose i noticed i needed more antifreeze/water, so i left the hood open to remind myself. my family then went out for the night and it rained while we were gone. i came home and thought how dumb it was to leave it open and shut the hood.

then a day or so later i went to drive it and all seemed well. But when i got to the first stop sign, i put it in neutral to coast, the rpm's dropped to zero, the engine died, and the dash lights came on. I restarted it and figuered it was a fluke. then at the stoplight it did the same thing and was harder to start. It took me about 10 seconds of turning over and gassing until it started again. I worry i could flood or kill the starter the more i do this

it may be important to note that it always dropped to zero when i put it in neutral, but never shut off. it always hit zero bounced off and leveled out, with no worries.

i fiquered i would remove the hose and all would be normal, this was not the case. it still did the same old thing, but it always starts when i try it

everyday i test it and drive it round the neighborhood, to see if it was wet and had just dried, and it does the same thing

testing it i noticed that at idle if i gassed it it would rev up, drop to zero, die for an instant with lights on, and restart, all within about 2 seconds.

i read a post about a similar problem in a 760, and a reply said that it might have to do with a crank angle/rpm sensor.....

if you have any advice or thoughts i would greatly appreciate them. thanks for your time, and have a great new year

Devin
