Is this a real bargain for $1000? 200 1989

Is this a bargain, or should I stay away?
Happy New Year all! I need your advice. I am thinking about purchasing a '89 240 automatic here in NY.
Miles: 213 k two owner car.

The good:
Mechanic owned for the past 6 years. Mechanically excellent. Engine rebuild (he doesn't know why) at 120k. Loses 1/2 quart every between 3k oil changes. No rust evident. Drive: beautiful. Great pickup, idles quietly, nice ride, tracks perfectly, brakes excellent. New tires 4 months ago.

The bad:
Body: minor dent in rear door. Paint: "pitting" on the hood, minor scratches here and there. Certainly could use a paint job for cosmetics.

The ugly:
U shaped windshield crack in front of rear view mirror. Not in line of sight, apparently will pass inspection. I hate those cracks.. I know it'll only get bigger, and replacement is around 300.

Crack on driver headlight lens. Rear tail light backup lens missing on pass side.

Electric window passenger side needs repair.

I like the part that he's the second owner and has had the car for 6 years. Reason for selling: needs a van for the kids.. and this is the extra car.,, gotta go. He worked at a reputable shop where the car was serviced since new, and grabbed the car when it went up for sale.

My finances are tight, so I'm trying to be careful. I'm driving my '79 242 which is turning into a mechanically very good 4 speed rust bucket. I think I should replace this flatnose, and I think this might be the car.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Larry
