How to remove defroster vents? 700 1987

Ok, so I can see that the two vents on the top of the dash are held in by some kind of metal clip (looks like two clips on each vent). How can I release these vents? push the clips, pull the clips? Prying the vents out just looks like an invitation to having broken plastic vents.
