960 wheels don't fit a 740! 700

I was under the impression that the later 850/960 wheels would fit on a 740, even though they have more offset (inward).
Yes they fit, but not if you have 195/65-15 Nord frosts on them!
I had these wheels for a few years and always assumed they'd fit, but yesterday after mounting the Gislaveds on them I found the tires rubbing the struts. WAH!
Now I have to dismount the tires, get rid of these wheels and find some others....
anyone want to trade?
