Coolant mixture 200

Does anyone know if it matters whether or not red or green coolant fluid matters? and if so can they be mixed? What are the ill-effects of mixing these two different colors? Can either color have adverse effects on the temperature of my car (even after I just changed the thermostat)? Please help! My car is running cold, and possibly pumping a lethal mixture! Thanks, AG
