Front strut replacement - is the 'strut spacer' SUPPOSED to be there? 200 1989

Hey all,

I replaced my front struts a couple months ago in my '89 245. My Haynes manual suggested there was a rubber strut spacer at the bottom of the strut tube. No such thing there. Doublechecked from the bottom of the strut tube when I replaced the ball joints. I see FCP Groton sells them, so I know they exist.

Is the car supposed to have this for my model year?
