odometer works and does not work 200 1979

I have problem with the odometer and trip meter on my '79 244 not working ...
If I reset the trip meter it works for some time (<40 km) and then it just stops (odometer also)....
The speedometer works fine. The speedo wire is connected securely...
I do have extra instrument cluster but it's the later type.

Any experience anyone??
