tranny woes 700 1989

I had to take my tranny apart to get a bit of plastic out I dropped in it .I took the round plate whatever that is right behind the T C off it has 8 bolts. the tranny turns find by hand from the output shaft until I tighten those bolts. is this normal. thanks I know just enough about wrenching to get into trouble
