Electrical Help 200

I have a 1980 240GL Automatic. I noticed that the light on the shifter was only on when in park. When I went to further investigate I found that the wire was totally cut, and only making contact when in park. I spliced the wires, and added some more wire so there would be enough room for the shifter to move without pulling the wires. Well, my problem is when I removed the light to make the splices I noticed a glass fuse had fallen out, but do not know where it came from. Now not only do I not have any light comming from the shifter, but my dash lights are out as well. Meaning the illumination lights for night-time driving are out. All the other lights work such as the bulb failure light that stays on and the other lights that illuminate when first starting. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
