Replacing original cassette player 700

The cassette player in my 87 740 is dead -- the radio plays fine, but tapes don't. Can this be repaired? If I find a used replacement, is it likely to expire soon too, given the age? I'd like to keep the original look, or close to it -- if I have to replace the whole unit, has anyone found an aftermarket radio/cassette that looks similar?
