Well, I decided to drive my 88' 245dl from Rhode Island to Colorado Springs to do missions work and rolled her over to 170,000m. The problem is one I had before I left, a rusty tank and prepump mount (typical on ne volvo) The gas gauge has not worked since last spring (over a year) because the plug for the sender is rusted off at the tank. The car now sputters, stalls, intemitently does not start, and has bad lag. I intitially thought it was a timing issue (Should I have my timing adjusted for the altitude?) I have diagnosed the problem as one typical of 240 prepump problems when the tank is not full, so I bought the prepump from IPD, being unable to demount the old one from the tank, I will need to also replace the tank, so I got one from a junk yard (they wouldnt let me take it out). So, I have several problems/questions, for someone who has switched a 240 tank before, what potential secondary problems may I run into? (I am going to replace the main pump at the same time) Would anyone in the CS area like to give me a hand? (I am using a garage at Peterson with a lift) what is the safest way to do this? Should I replace any of the fuel line? (I bought a new rubber section for the Prepump). Please, I would appreciate any suggestions or help.
Thanks,
Tom
