Hello,
I am the owner of a 96 960 Volvo 110K, (white w/ gray leather,) - nice car with a turning radius that I will find hard to give up some day - I am hooked on it.
New here and looking for some insight. My 960 won't shift out of park unless I depress the override switch - the infamous problem.
I had problems in the past and Volvo replaced the micro switch under warranty, and a few years later I replaced the ignition switch as it went bad.
So, I took the console apart and found the switch. I tested with an OHM meter and it tests good while in circuit. I tested one I bought, and it tests the same way so I assume the in curcuit switch is still good (was hoping it wasn't).
The two pins broke (one was gone when I got in there - so I super glued the switch back in a verified its operation with OHM meter again while depressing the shift knob button.
So my question is, is the brake switch bad, or the down in the dark pits solenoid. I have not taken the brake switch out yet, but can I test it with OHM meter the same way?
Is there something else I should troubleshoot (can I test the switch in circuit like I did for break or continuity). I cannot wiggle the ignition switch and get it out of park - so I think the ignition switch is okay.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
RocknVolvo.
