The power antenna on my '93 940 sedan is in the down position. About 5 years ago I replaced the antenna mast so I knew I should hear antenna motor run for several seconds any time I turned the ignition on or off regardsless of whether the mast moved of not. However, I did not hear the motor at all.
To check whether the antenna motor was bad or if I have a problem with the elecrical feed (from the radio or otherwise), I accessed the antenna motor assembly and found that three wires going to the motor: Red, white and green. I used a circuit tester to see which wires had power. The red and whire wires were constantly hot, regardless of the ignition switch setting, while the green wire did not have power at any time.
Questions:
1) Is anyone familar with this wiring? If so, should both the red and white circuits be energized while the green is not?
2) Should I try directly connecting the antenna to an external 12-volt source? If so, what terminals should I connect?
Thanks for your help.
