How & Would you disarm SRS? 200 1992

Just a question regarding SRS system on late 240s. If you wear your seat belt, do you need something exploding in your face? Appears that disarming SRS can be accomplished by unplugging the orange cable behind the steering wheel. If this is done, is the SRS above ground and suseptable to static discharge activation? If inadvertent deployment is possible, will an earlier 240 steering wheel fit without modification?
