valves adjusted (closed) by themselves. anyone had this happen? 120-130

I got my 122 tuned up in September (valves were adjusted to appropriate settings). It ran perfectly for about a month. Then it got to where when I got off the interstate (car was all warmed up)and put it in neutral it would die. This problem progressed for about a month until it would die all the time and would not idle without a foot on the gas. Then it would not start or run at all. Took it back to the mechanic, and found that all valve clearances were too tight. Nobody had touched it. He readjusted them, and it ran perfectly again. I bet it will happen again. anyone know what would cause this? Thanks in advance!
