How do you replace the auto shift light bulb on a late (1997/98, UK R reg) model 940? The details given on this forum so far, and those in my Haynes manual seem to refer to the model upto around 1996. On my model the light is on the rh side deep down on the shift mechanism and can just be seen if I prise the footwell panel aside. It looks as if the bulb and holder come out sideways but I am not sure if there is enough space and and loath, at present, to remove all the footwell trim. The top plate of the mech seems to be secured by 4 bolts, accessible once the ashtray and centre console has been released and pulled back. So it is not the type where the bulb can be accessed from the top by undoing a couple of screws as on the 240.
Will the auto shift mech just lift up if I undo/remove the 4 bolts?
What precautions need taking? Could anything go out of adjustment? It cannot be too difficult because a local dealer reckons it is a 30 min total job (hence I do not think all footwell trim has to come out), but I do not want to damage anything as this mechanism is unknown ground for me and I can find no manual to cover it.
Cheers, Phil
