My dilemna is that the Recirc damper is being continuously held in the Recirc position. This makes the windows fog up when the heater is run. I've checked the vacuum lines to all the other damper mechanisms (floor, dash, and defrost) and they all move fine when the appropriate console button is depressed.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the damper mechanism located on the rear of the HVAC box. My guess is that the only way to get to it is to remove the dash. I'm thinking about just wedging something between the Recirc damper and the firewall during the winter months to keep the HVAC box lined up to suck from the cowl vents.
I noticed a previous post asking about how to clean out the cowl vent intakes. For that matter, I'd like to know how to install screens. Do you put them on top of the cowl vents?? that would look bad. How do you get the screens on the underside of the cowl vents??
While I was investigating the Recirc damper being stuck in the Recirc position, I vacuumed best I could the evaporator drain pan and blew out the drain tube. In fact...I felt the evaporator fins and they were kinda dusty so I brushed them off. Afterwards, I disconnected the drain tube from the floorboard and blew backwards into the drain pan while the Recirc damper was open..seemed pretty clean actually.
I've taken off the top speaker grill and I still don't think I can get to the Recirc damper mechanism. Any ideas????
