The exhaust on my wagon is shot. And I do mean shot.I have a plan to make the front pipe all the way pass the cat. I have a 740 turbo wagon here for my son's parts car and I have look at it and I see that it is possible to make part of it in to the 88 NA system. I plan to cut the pipe mount off and to fab a collector to fit it. Then cut the turbo pipe and fit that on to the collector
My hope is that the exhaust coming out of the engine will be more even with less back pressure. I have 16 yrs as a machinest and fabicator in this field so I know that it can be done I just wonder if the larger pipe will help as planned.IPD say's 5 to 6 HP gain with just the back system I want 10 for the whole system. I believe that the muffler is stopped up and is hurting the power. The cat isn't hurting it because there is nothing in it.Here in this county they just raise the car to see if there is one on the car so a shell of the cat will work here. The emission on this car was all most perfect so I know that the old cat isn't doing nothing. If anybody has done this reply to this post and let me know if this helped your car I plan on posting pictures of this header pipe for those of you that might try this on your car.I wonder if the noise will be different and if the torque will change in the power band.
Let's face it these 230 engines last so long because Volvo never did really tap the power that these engines could produce. They were made to go back and foward to work and for the wife to go to the store.
Thanks
