Rear-end swap, 1982 245 200

Friends!

Thanks again in advance for all your help.
Today my question for you is this:

How late-model a rear end assembly (differential) can I swap into my 1982 245? Would a limited-slip differential be an advantageous upgrade even though, living in Texas, snow and ice are rare problems? How does one identify a LSD?

I have been planning to replace the rear axle half-shaft bearings, which I know to be bad, and thought I should consider replacing the whole assembly. I believe that some of the noise I hear coming from the rear end may be caused by wear in the differential itself. Should I consider repairing the differential in the rear end I have?

Thanks!
