check engine light 900 1992

the check engine light came on last night
has been 25 to 35 degrees farenheit here
the car has been running well-always started and let idle until temp is up
but now am trying to filter throught the brickboard and figure out what people are talking about in reference to "codes"
where is the magic code box in a 940? and where in the green book is it explained?
any help would be greatly appreciated
the advice on here about the bulb sensor failure relay saved me a bundle when i replaced it my self
-the mechanic was dumbfounded when i told him what i did on the advice of those on here
