My '84 Volvo GL has been haunted with an intermitant surging problem ever since I bought it about 4 years ago.
What happens is that when I am about to park my car, the vehicle seems to surge a bit, causing a slight acceleration. This acceleration comes out of the blue and is not caused by me hitting the gas pedal. As quickly as the problem appears, it seems to disappear, not to resurface until (maybe) the next time I am easing into a slow, forward parking situation.
Other than that, the car seems to run perfectly fine. I don't notice any particular wierdness with the idle nor do I detect any problems when I am on the road driving.
When the problem does occur, I can quickly bring the car under control with the use of the clutch and my brake.
I wonder if anybody has any idea what may be causing this surge?
Thanks! --Amtrak
