Hi there,
It’s freezing this morging over here in Belgium, -2 degrees Celcius when I started my 1992 965 (with LPi). This morning the Lambda-probe light came on. I also noticed some minor clonking noise coming from the engine (not the ticking from the valves), but that soon went away. I was worried about it, but not enough to drive off to work. I had done about 25 kilometres and left the highway, and then I felt that the engine was sometimes misfiring.
Now I don’t really know what to do. I had a problem about six months ago on a really hot day: a couple of cilinders suddenly didn’t work, but the Lambda-probe light didn’t came on then. It turned out to be (according to the mechanic anyway) one of the two power stages. After the fix, I felt the engine wasn’t as smooth as it should be, but a couple of days later the Lambda-probe light came on (I remembered it happened when the engine almost died) and the engine was as smooth as before. Then I had the Lambda-probe light reset, and I have driven the car without problems for about 13000km since then.
So now I am worried: is the Lambda-probe itself faulty, is it damaging the power-stages or something? I bought the car with 188000 km on it and now it has done 296600. Can I drive home like this for about 30 km or is this lethal?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Uturn.
