Halfway thru automatic tranny rear seal/bushing/mount replacement: got an idea! 200 1989

While I was laying under the car watching the last little bit of ATF drain from where I had just removed the rear tranny housing, I noticed that I had a straight shot view/access to the solenoid OD wire coming out of the shifter to the underside of the car. I got an idea about wrapping the wire or somehow protecting it while I had a good access to it. Maybe wrap it with electrical tape? Or maybe slit a drinking straw and then wrap that over the wire?? What have you done to protect the wire?? ideas??

Also, I'm wondering about greasing the front driveshaft U-joint while it's just hanging there. Does it have a grease fitting?? If it doesn't, can I install one??

What other tangents can I get off on while the machine shop is pressing the new rear tranny bushing into the housing???? By the way, it looks like the bushing is oriented in a very unique way with respect to the housing slots, oil grooves, etc. I'm gonna have to communicate that to the maching shop guys. Maybe I can knock out the bushing myself, but I'm skeered.

This tranny suffered a bad thing about a year ago when the radiator coolant leaked into the transmission fluid. It's been flushed several times and the only thing that's wrong still is that when it's cold, cold outside, the thing sticks in 1st gear for about two blocks. In the summer, it does fine. Someone said that the governor can be removed w/o taking the tranny out..true??

Enough rambling.

p.s. I don't think I'm gonna scrape the old rear housing gasket..it didn't break apart when I tapped the housing off. yee haa
