Cruise control 200 1983

I've a question for you all. How high of a speed will (should) the cruise on my '83 240GL hold. My other cars (Dodge van, Chevy Impala) will hold at any speed over 25 mph but this Volvo will not hold at any speed over 60 mph. I live in Central Florida and 60 is asking to get killed around here. Any ideas?
