Hello All,
I'm usually wondering around the 200 series forum but recently I have been helping a friend fix up her 1990 745GLE Turbo. The B230FT has about 196K on the clock and runs good (after lot of troubleshooting for a bad knock sensor). I try to do what I can to keep her 745GLE going since taking it to a garage is too much money for her and I like learning new things about Volvo's so it is a win-win situation.
Last week I took apart her power antenna to remove all the broken pieces of nylon gear that the old power antenna had left. I was able to purchase a new power antenna mast on Ebay and installed it into the power antenna assembly. The only thing is that now when the radio is turned on or off nothing happens with the power antenna motor. The teeth are going the right way in the antenna gears it is just that the motor does not turn anymore.
It was then that I saw that Power Antenna Button/Switch and wondered, What Does That Switch Do? Do I need the switch up or down in order to make the antenna rise when the radio is turned on/off? Does the switch control the antenna by itself regardless of the radio? I always thought the radio (it an aftermarket SONY) controlled the power antenna via the power antenna remote wire and thus all you had to do was to turn on or off the radio to make the power antenna work. Does that switch change anything in the way the antenna works? Any help would be great (especially a wiring diagram) in finding out if the how the motor gets it power, its up or down signal, and how that power antenna button/switch ties into the circuit. Thanks to all for their time and sorry for the long post.
Sincerely,
