ENGINE VIBRATION - MOTOR OUNTS? 900 1993

I feel and hear engine vibration when the engine goes over 2500 rpm. I searchd this site and found a lot of info on engine and tranny mount replacement. Is that a symptom of high peed vibration or is it evidenced only at idle?.My car is an automatic with 170,000 miles on it. Looking at the engine mounts, they look ok. Before I do any more research (getting dirty andchecking out the transmission mount), am I on the right track or are there other facyors which cause this dull roar. My grandson's 89 240 doesn't make this much noise.
