i have a 1992 240 wagon with the aw70 tranny.

what is conventional wisdom on removing the tranny pan as part of maintenance? is a flush sufficient, and removing the pan only another opportunity to break/bend something else, or should both be done?

if both are recommended, is the sequence: drain, remove pan, clean up and replace pan/gaskets/filter/etc., fill back up with fluid, and then commence the flushing process?
