Although I have had Volvo's on & off for years I got an auto tranny one in July of last year. It is a 1988 240DL with 135,000 miles on it. My procedure for checking tranny fluid is : check it in morning cold(having been sitting overnite), letting it idle 10x minutes, put it slowly in each gear, let it sit 2x minutes, and then checking dipstick level looking at low temp range on stick. Checked fine until past couple of months. I am in NJ where it turned cold past couple months and remains cold. I Find now when I check it(using above procedure) the level is low so i add about 4 to 5 ounzes. Today it was warmer(finally)and when i checked it was fine. Even a bit too much. So question is : In cold weather should i use a different checking procedure ? Let it idle longer then 10x minutes ? Etc., Etc. Any help/advice is as always greatly appreciated. Thanks. .... Frank

P.S.-Changed/flushed fluid in fall.
