Well, all good things must come to and end, or so they say. After weeks of working on this reclaimed 760 that we got in a package because it would not start, I finally made a decision yesterday as it was being loaded on a roll back, to fill the engine compartment with an American V6 and associated electronics. It is a shame too because Volvo designed a great package other than the electronics for these cars. (I have replaced every relay, pump, switch, and computer on the car in the last 6 weeks!) After finally replacing the coolant sensor and having it run like a new one for two days, the car died during our last ice storm and stranded my 11 year old and I while we were making a medicine run. I started checking circuits one by one when we finally got it back to the house, and found several small things that seemed to help for one crank. After cleaning the Idle Air Switch, the car seemed to be fine. I cranked it a dozen times, drove it around the block, ran the stuff out of it, and then it died right in front of Volvo of Charlotte! Now I have it back in the drive and my intention is to pull the intake manifold to acess the wiring. Each wire is going to be checked back to the ECU or associated relay. Since it seems that an inordinate number of owners of these turbo equiped cars are having the same problems, I will document the process and post the results before junking the engine, trans, and all the electronics in favor of a 4.3L V6 Chevrolet that will start and run (with 200+ HP N/A BTW)with no drama. (I will also document that swap with AutoCad drawings in case anyone else is as fed up with Viking Technology as I am. I asked a woman that I know who lived in Sweden for 18 years why the Swedes designed stuff like they do? Her reply was, "What do you expect from people that live in the dark for six months at a time!")
