740 Turbo Intercooler: Removal of Turbo 700 1984

A volvo specialist has determined that the turbo in my 740 is the root of my problem of constant stalling. A replacement costs $$$, i am wondering if simply disconnecting turbo would solve problem. I need help on if this is possible/safe, and how to if anyone could help. Thanks.
