Help! I have to make some decisions in the next couple hours about my engine head. My 81 242 went in the shop 3 days ago to replace the head gasket. In the process of machining the head, the shop found a small crack. They might have another head and want to know if I want the replacement head machined.
Two questions:
If they don't have another head and I have to find one on my own, what kind of money are we talking? I'd have to figure in someone pulling it for me, plus worry the "junk" head is damaged too.
Shouldn't the replacement head be machined as a matter of course? Why was machining my original head part of the job, but doing the replacement head optional? The mechanic said he's got a straight edge he can use instead. I'm a little worried about this.
Thanks thanks thanks - will let you know how it turns out.
