Hello all,
I own a 67 122S that had been off the road for a good 10+ years. A true barn find. Up to this point, I'm not very mechanical so......I had the car R&R'ed
at a friend's shop. Sunk quite a bit of coin after that initial $350 outlay.
In any case, I have new Stainless Steel brake lines. Had the brakes inspected
and suprisingly, didn't have to put either new drums or pads on the car.
Got the car back and took it on a nice little "get-familiar" drive. Other than a dragging noise which to me...is either wheel bearings or the rear brakes binding and requiring another adjustment, the car performed great. The clutch pedle is way high, needs adjusting...lowering.
There was one other thing. The break pedal would travel about 3/4 of the way down before you'd feel braking. However, if you let up and depressed the pedal again, you'd have braking immediately upon pressing the pedal.
OK.......I parked the car for a week and next time I got it it.....NOTHING. No brakes at all, the pedal just goes down to the floor without resistance. I do have an E-Brake.
I'm thinking that after 10+ years, the brake m/c gave up the ghost. The brake fluid reservoir is full so, I don't think it's a leak. Opening the lid on the brake M/C through...it looks pretty empty in there.
Any ideas? I think...and tell me if I'm crazy not being mechanically inclined, I'm going to take this on as a learning experience and replace the brake m/c myself. The working E-Brake on a single-circuit car (early 1967 122) is what's throwing me as that should be out too, no?
However, I did want to check and see that I'm barking up the right tree before digging into a brake m/c repair.
Best,
