I'm having a problem with warped brake rotors that wont go away. Last year, I had to do a front brake service on my 940. The pads were worn to hell, and the rotors were quite thin and old looking (there was a 1mm ridge worn into the edge of the rotors), but to the bitter end those rotors were smooth as silk.
So I purchased a set of replacement pads (mintex red) and zimmerman cross drilled rotors. They were brake pulsation was apparent immediately. I removed them, made sure the hubs were clean and they were installed correctly (they were) and sent the rotors back to FCP groton. They sent me a new set and they started pulating within 50 miles or so. I dealt with it for a while (6k miles or so), but it just got worse and worse. I decided to resurface the rotors, and had to take 10 thousands off of them, which is insanity but afterwards they were true and drove great. I also checked the calipers and found the drivers side had a siezed sliding pin. I replaced the caliper and the pads. Then about 1000 miles later, it's back again. I just ordered another set of rotors, regular this time, not cross drilled. But I dont want the same thing to happen again to new rotors. I would suspect a out of round hub, but why wasnt I having this problem with the original, worn, decrepid rotors? This started immediately after replacement.
Just one of the other attributes of this car that add to it's "character"... :)
Oh and I always torque the wheels to the correct spec in a 5-star pattern. No blasting them on with an impact gun.
