Rear Torque Rod Bushing 700 1990

I am replacing the bushings in the rear suspension of my 1990 Model 740GL (it has 358,000 miles). I have managed to remove the old bushings but I am having trouble installing the large rear bushings in the rear torque rods (upper and lower). These are the large bushings that taper to a smaller diameter in the center of the bushing. Has anybody changed these before, and if so, what is the secret to installing the new busings in the Torque Rod. When I try to push in the new bushing it gets cocked in the hole in the Torque Rod and squirts out to one side or the other.

Thanks in advance.
Guy P.
