Drive Line Shudder! 120-130

Hey George / JohnMc!!!!

Carried a heavy load in my 64 wagon this weekend (big ole Delta floor standing drill press my buddy gave me) and now I have a moderate driveline shudder. It's probably about time for a carrier bearing renewal anyway. is it likey that the mounts were on the edge andthe extra load pushed em over?

The shudder is like this.. On moderate ot heavy acceleration i get a pretty good shudder and as i let off the gas to cruise it lightens up to a very mild continuous vibraton. Finding the right rate of acceleration makes it tolerable. When coasting the vibration is barely noticable but downshiting for a stop brings the shudder back, although pretty mild.

I have a 64, so I have the early style carrier design. Is it possible to use the later design as a replacement? The car is a 64 and the carrier probably has never been changed and total miles is 150K of so, it also sat for 18 years. Odds are this is the problem, Whaddya think?

Gonna take a couple days to get parts so drive as little as possible and be easy on it when I do is a good plan???? Plus use the brakes instead of down shifting too? Gonna do the u-joints and motor/ tranny mounts at the same time too cause they are on the soft side (bulging pretty good)!

Mike
