What are the triangles for on c-pillar???!?!? 200 1982

What is the function of the the triangles on the roof line at the top of the c-pillars?What are they for? ALSO is it easy to remove the rain gutters that flare out from the body? I'm thinking of repainting and these things just gotta to go. Any answers are troooly appreciated..
