91 740 turbo dead again 700

Now that our Volvo has been towed for the third time in the past couple of months we have all but given up! However, I have started to troubleshoot. After each of the first two tow jobs it took some time to get the car running again, both times without a eureka moment were a specific problem was uncovered. I have though, developed a fairly good understanding of both the fuel and ignition systems.
When the car died a couple of days ago it was instant, no coughing, no rough running, just dead. I suspected the ignition system so I checked for spark at the coil. There was spark so I pulled a plug and had Lindsay turn the engine over. Well, tons of gas sprayed from the plug hole with each cranking and both the car and my arm caught fire... spark is good! I was surprised by the shear volume of gas coming out of the spark plug hole. Even with a non-functioning pressure control valve I can't believe that that much fuel would be processed through the injectors. The fuel spray is pulsing, is it possible that some feed back loop is causing the ECU to send improper timed signals to the injectors? Has anyone out there had a similar experience and found a solution?
Stefan
