240 auto tranny won't shift into last gear 200

My 1989 240 wagon automatic will not shift into the last gear (4th?). This happened while i was driving to work today. Now I am 20 miles from home. Could it be overdrive related? When I hit the od switch, the indicator light comes on but obviously nothing happens, since it is already in the lower gear. I was hoping it could possibly be od solenoid related or something, anything other than having to pay $ for transmission work. Of course, the tranny fluid level is fine.
