Inner tie rod ends. What's the scoop?? How do you know if they're bad? Hard? 200 1989

The grease monkeys at Big Ten Tire said "No" to a front end alignment. I had noticed previously on my own that the driver's side wheel kind of moved when you grabbed at 9 and 3 o'clock and shook. I have new ball joints (which I finally figured out how the correct orientation goes), tie rod ends, struts (Sachs Advantage), strut mounts, and control arm bushings. Now this.

The grease monkeys said that it was the inner tie rod ends. Bentley manual nor Haynes address. How much for parts and how hard to fix??
