Hi,
I've got an 89 240 that the last couple of mornings hasn't started. I messed with it a little both nights cleaning fuses, etc., and got it to run but it was a little rough for a while after starting. I was suspicious of fuel pump. I couldn't hear it running for a few seconds when I turn the key on.
When I check at fuse 4 for the intank pump, I don't get any current until the engine is actually cranking and it now starts good but the pump doesn't seem to operate until the engine is cranking. If I'm reading my wiring diagrams correctly, the intank pump should be on whenever the main pump is on. The original fuel pump relay clicks when the key turns on and I've replaced it with one that was good when I removed it from our totalled car a year ago. I've also tried a different ECU.
So, any thoughts? Am I correct in my assumption that both pumps fire at the same time? Are there any other components that I need to check? As I type this, it seems like if it clicks, I should be getting power.
Thanks!
Lyle
