Two or Three 4-Second Starter Bursts Needed To Start Engine?? 200 1988

I am having problems with my 1988 240. This has been a progressive problem. I am finding I need two or three 4 second bursts from the starter to spark up the engine. Once the engine catches it slowly climbs up to speed but runs normally within a second or so. The car runs fine otherwise and I have had no problems driving down the road. The engine does not seem starved and it does appear to be getting electrical charge....it just takes a long crank on the starter to get it running. The spark plugs, wires, distributer cap/rotor were installed about 4,000 miles back.
