instrument cluster lights dimming intermittently? 200

I have an 86 240 sedan and am having intermittent problems with the
instrument cluster lighting going from bright to very dim.

I have already bypassed the riostat? dimmer knob (twisted all wires together with screw cap)

It seems like a poor connection somewhere.
After looking at the wiring specs in the bentley manual, I can't seem to trace back the wiring into the engine bay, and my head now hurts as well, those specs always seem to do that...

Looking for any info on connections to check for loose-ness or corrosion.
Any help would be great.
